Selected Content Descriptor:

Year 3 & 4

  • Work with others to plan the creation and communication of ideas and information safely, applying agreed ethical and social protocols (ACTDIP013)

Without further adieu, please check-out Resource One: Online Safety
(Click on hyperlink below)

TASK 3 ONLINE SAFETY

Resource Two: Design and Technologies

  • Investigate how people in design and technologies occupations address competing considerations, including sustainability in the design of products, services and environments for current and future use (ACTDEK019)

Elaboration

  • Reflecting on the importance of aesthetics, function and sustainability in product design, for example a textile product that gives protection and is appealing; a motor that moves a vehicle and uses a sustainable power source

(ACARA, 2015)

EDP 4130 Technology Curriculum & Pedagogy – Assessment Task 3

Hello everyone!

I’ve just finished the drafts for my two resources for the Australian Curriculum Technology Strands (ACARA, 2015). 🙂

Selected Content Descriptor:

Year 3 & 4

  • Work with others to plan the creation and communication of ideas and information safely, applying agreed ethical and social protocols (ACTDIP013)

(ACARA, 2015)

Instead of creating a WebQuest like I originally planned (after acknowledging feedback given for Task 1  see prior blog post for further information), I decided a PowerPoint was a good alternative. I have also decided to leave the resource more open-ended to allow for teaching freedom.

Without further adieu, please check-out Resource One: Online Safety

** Please note, this has since been updated since draft submission to include general capabilities link.

TASK 3 ONLINE SAFETY

Resource Two: Design and Technologies

Selected Content Descriptor:

Year 5 & 6:

Elaboration

  • Reflecting on the importance of aesthetics, function and sustainability in product design, for example a textile product that gives protection and is appealing; a motor that moves a vehicle and uses a sustainable power source

(ACARA, 2015)

Resource Two – Product Design introduces product design and the basic elements of design. It uses inquiry, humour and visuals to keep students engaged. For more information, please read the description section under the video on YouTube.

If time permits, I hope to also complete a second video (to make it a two-part video lesson) in a similar format to briefly outline the Design Process in student-friendly language as I was unable to find anything satisfactory when looking for my own lessons.

I’ve chosen to make this into two parts instead of one to allow for greater teaching flexibility according to context. 🙂

Thank You 🙂

EDP4130 – Technology Curriculum & Pedagogy – Task 1

Hi all,

I just thought I’d share my progress for Task One (now that I have wrapped my head around it… hopefully!)

Below are my selected content descriptors from the Australian Curriculum Technology Strand (ACARA, 2015) and my resource ideas.

Digital Technology:

Year 3 & 4

  • Work with others to plan the creation and communication of ideas and information safely, applying agreed ethical and social protocols (ACARA, 2015)

Resource: An online safety WebQuest

Design & Technologies:

Year 5 & 6:

  • Investigate how people in design and technologies occupations address competing considerations, including sustainability in the design of products, services and environments for current and future use

Elaboration

  • Reflecting on the importance of aesthetics, function and sustainability in product design, for example a textile product that gives protection and is appealing; a motor that moves a vehicle and uses a sustainable power source (ACARA, 2015)

Resource: YouTube Video Exploring Product Design’s elements and considerations including aesthetics, function, sustainability, context and the design process. (I could not find anything remotely useful for student use when originally looking – hence I decided to make my own 🙂 )

I WISH I had found this for my last prac where I taught all sorts of safety lessons! Cool resource 🙂

The Road to Life-long Learning

This week I have taught two almost full days. This means that I taught all of the teachable lessons plus there was reading groups and spelling activities that I helped with and guided groups of students through.

In terms of using ICTs, only two of my lessons this week are eligible to be included in the third assignment. Scootle was a helpful site for finding resources that had students using ICT skills as they were learning.

Another great interactive website I used this week was Triple Zero Kid’s Challenge. The students loved this website as it included animations, sounds and voices for each character and interactive sections.

These sorts of ICTs have been the only kind I can integrate as the interactive part of the IWB does not work and in any case my mentor has a very similar attitude to that of the mentor mentioned in preservicepilgramageponderings‘…

Cool visuals and examples involving using apps that align with Bloom’s Taxonomy!

Bloomin’ Apps!

Okay, so I just found something great. I can’t even remember how I came across it, I’m not even sure if I got it from someone else’s blog! (so if I have taken your finding without credit, I’m sorry!) All I know is that it ended up in my opened tabs, and when I was reading through and closing all of them I came across this gem.

This relates so well to the second assignment, and also the framework that I was planning on using. First things first, I was thinking about using Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy for the framework in my assignment, and this website is a collection of apps that correlate directly with the different levels of Bloom’s. I am able to choose the Applying level, for instance, and it will give my apps for whichever device I am using. In the iPad apps list, there is…

Loving the look of this Reflector app!

Alysha's ICT Development Journey!

’Reflector’ is a great app that I used to showcase student work or show students a demonstration of something on the iPad. Reflector works by wirelessly ‘mirroring’ a student’s iPad to the teacher’s computer, which is connected to the Projector and IWB. I often mirrored students’ work up on the IWB to redirect or provide struggling students with an example of the expected result. Another fun activity I did was use Reflector to show students how a compass works. As I moved around the class with my iPad in hand, the students were able to determine the direction and degrees I was facing.

This video tutorial explains it a lot more clearly!
